The Mugshot Café

So last night, me and my friend Diana and Toby decided to head for dessert after a spicy Chettinad dinner. So my friend Toby offer to treat us with one of the most unusual dessert that is yogurt at The Mugshot Cafe.

So first, he ordered for us a Greek yogurt drizzled with palm sugar aka gula melaka and slices of jackfruit. And I LIKE IT!!!
The gula Melaka is very nice together with Greek yogurt.  The tanginess of the yogurt and the sweet and earthy gula Melaka really fuse together without overpowering each other, one taste from the Mediterranean, another one taste from the South East Asia and I got the best of both worlds! yummy. The slices of jack fruit just add some local identity with a little bit of texture and color, for some it may be a little bit odd but for me it is simply genius.

     This is an unexpected place to order or drink cappuccino. It is late evening and we are planning to celebrate our friend birthday. Since it is Friday night and I am too tired to even function, I chose something with caffeine just to kick start my midnight activity.

    And not bad at all. Even though the ambiance is more like a pub-restaurant next to the beach kind of place, they have the effort to make the cup as presentable as possible with biscotti!!! awesome.

The richness of the drink is beyond my imagination, I keep reminding myself that, this is not a coffeeshop and still they made the best coffee that I ever tasted.

The food is not bad too, delicious and very affordable. I ordered Nasi Goreng Kampung and the dish come with 3 satay and the taste is ahmmaazzing!

 

 

So, last Saturday, me and my friend decided to have our coffee at China House, Beach Street. It is really nice to have a chat and gossips over coffee.
China House is located in an old shophouse that can be accessed from Beach Street and Victoria Street. I ordered cappuccino and Coconut Buttercake with Passion Fruit icing, and my friend ordered Pineapple Mint Tea and Chocolate Lemon Gateau cake.

 

 



The cappuccino that I ordered is unsweetened and they give you a separate brown sugar so that you can add sugar according to your taste. For me, the cappuccino is too foamy to my taste and the temperature of the drink is not too hot and I kinda liked it. Since it is too foamy, I was unable to taste the essence of the coffee, it was too light. Overall, it is an OK drink, not that superb but not that bad, just nice if you want something light and do not want it to interfere onto the taste of the the food you ordered, but maybe next time I should request a "kaw" one or maybe they will just give me espresso instead :P

 

 

The cake that I keep ordering whenever I went to China House is this Coconut Buttercake with Passion Fruit Icing. Quite sweet for my taste but the mix between the passion fruit icing and the buttercake is just extraordinarily beautiful. I fall in love with the first bite of the cake and the rest is history ;)

The passion fruit is fresh and the cake is amazingly moist, and the portion is fulfilling. Believe me, you will wonder how this simple cake with simple icing and topping can amaze your taste bud.

Breakfast coffee

Instant coffee with pre added cream and sugar. The convenient way  to start your breakfast if you are in the go or simply lazy to open different container to mix stuff just for your morning coffee.

 

 

My friends got soooo hungover last night that I decided to make them a cup of coffee, black, to make them feel better in the morning. Even the smell of the coffee makes them feel even better. Instant freeze dried coffee, lightly sweetened with hot boiling water, add up together and the whole apartment will smell like coffee which is so out of this world.

      When in mamak restaurant for breakfast on weekends, we expect the service of the restaurant to be fast and up to your expectations.  The food might not be presentable but it doesn't matter as long as the taste is acceptable and able to satiate our hunger since we have been fasting all night :P

 

       On the other hands, the drinks is always appealing, whether we order teh tarik, or kopi 'o' or teh ais or teh 'o', we can't wait to put our lips to the brim of the glass to have a sip warm coffee or tea that will instantaneously made our mind ready for the rest of the weekend.

A Cup of Joe

A cup of joe is all I need to start my day early in the morning. This precious cup of caffeine will keep me going all day long.
